ABC Cooking Studio shares tricks on how to pack a Japanese-style bento

This bento box brimming with goodness is your perfect companion when going out on a picnic with the family.  Prepared the Japanese way, these traditional rice balls with a twist complement this tangy mushroom gratin that goes down a treat at the desk or in the playground.

MUSHROOM GRATIN WITH MAYONNAISE

Ingredients:
Eryngii Mushroom      2 piece
Shimeji                           1 pack
Broccoli                      1/2 root
Mayonnaise                   2 table spoons
Curry powder                a pinch
*for four cups of aluminum

Cooking direction
1. Cut up Eryngii mushroom, Shimeji, and Broccoli into bite-size pieces.
2. Boil Broccoli in hot water and drain.
3. Mix Mayonnaise and Curry Powder in a ball.
4. Put Eryngii mushroom, shimeji and broccoli in the balls and mix them with mayonnaise and curry powder.
5. Put it in an aluminum cup, bake it about 5 min (until the color of surface turns baked brown).

SWEET POTATO RICE BALL

Ingredients:
White Rice                   300 cc
Glutinous Rice              60 cc
Water                            360 cc
Kelp                                 10  cm
Sake                                  2   table spoons
Salt                                    1   tea spoon
Sweet potato              200   g

* for eight small rice balls

Cooking direction
1. Wipe the surface of kelp with the squeezed wet duster and cut several parts of it.
2. Put the kelp and rice (White and Glutinous) in the rice cooker and soak them in the water (360cc).
3. Keep the skin of sweet potato, cut it into 1cm dice-size pieces, soak them in water and drain.
4. Pull up the kelp from the rice cooker.
5. Put sweet potato, sake and salt in the rice cooker, mix them lightly and cook.
6. When it is cooked, mix them all softly.
