Big fun in Micronesia

By on May 30, 2009

Saipan is small, so small that its entire land mass could quite easily fit in one car park at a Florida attraction. For its demure size, it packs a hefty punch in the entertainment stakes. Only 15 kilometers long and 9 kilometers wide, Saipan is home to some of the most beautiful scenery on the planet. Stunning cliffs, deep caves, piercing blue skies and effortlessly turquoise waters, it’s easy to see why the great outdoors plays such a big part of the holiday lifestyle. Clear waters and coral reefs teeming with exotic fish are perfect for expert dives and leisure snorkelers whilst hiking through the lush tropical jungles gives wonderful vistas of a world frozen in time.

Saipan is more laid back than its southern sister Guam, but that doesn’t stop the adrenaline-pumping activities. Parasailing is a firm favorite here. Fly and drive takes on a new meaning as hiring a scooter is the perfect way to explore the island or go on foot for a mountain hike and take to the mountain trails.

Micro beach, just one kilometer long, has  brilliant white sand and  more water activities than you thought humanly possible but Saipan isn’t all banana boats and jet skiing; the famous Blue Grotto cave magically lights up the sea and the enchanted Managaha island reached by boat  holds a treasure of wrecks from WW2, all visible through amazingly clear water.

Guam is the largest and southern most island in the Mariana Islands archipelago, with year-round temperatures hovering in the 80s, the perfect climate for basking in the sun on one of the many idyllic beaches that surround the island or shopping in the duty free malls of Tumon Bay. Guam aims to please and offers the best of both the native Chamorro culture and the cosmopolitan feel  garnered from being occupied by America. Both worlds come together in a pint-sized tropical playground. Perfect for the family on a tight schedule, wanting the big holiday experience. In the morning you can be trekking along the volcanic hills to the peak of Humuyong Manglo, take a picnic at the stunning on Ritidian Point in the afternoon and hit the duty-free malls in the evening, all without raising a sweat.

The big family resort hotels in Micronesia, such as the Pacific Islands Club, take your entertainment very seriously and offer over 40 activities from sea kayaking, outrigger canoeing, sailing and snorkeling.  Thrilling enough to excite any teenager. Sea kayaking and windsurfing are all just a hop skip and a jump from your hotel suite. There is a kids’ club for the younger members, and like many other of the hotels in the area, an in-house water park is the norm, the list goes on. The family will never have been so busy, and you’ll have ample opportunity to make a beeline for the beautiful beach and read the next Grisham novel before the exquisite sunset calls time out. For an effortless  stay in Micronesia, The Pacific  Islands Club offers the best family  packages around. PIC  has resorts on  both  islands. Offering perfect  beach side locations, warm  hospitality and a multitude  of sports and activities  organized  by PIC’s  very own Clubmates, providing the  ultimate fun in  the sun.
