A famous Chinese proverb goes like this:  “Tell me but I’ll forget; show me so I may remember; involve me and I’ll understand.”  It is through such involvement of play and experiential learning that a child’s early educational foundation is built.  Early conditioning is just as important to a child’s progress as in harnessing the right social skills, ethics and values to serve a valuable purpose in later years.  Children at the preschool level have the potential to learn quickly. It is a proven fact and not merely an allegory.  Research studies prove that with the proper nurturing, preschoolers who are exposed to alphabets, numbers, colours, shapes and other basics early, develop their cognitive ability faster.  Essentially, preschool education today is about preparing the child mentally and emotionally using age-appropriate teaching methods.

EtonHouse Tokyo, the latest addition to international preschools in Minato-ku, just next to Tokyo Midtown, strongly shares this belief and subscribes to core principles of respect, responsibility, and community through exploration and discovery.  The new school will provide a supportive and enriching environment, keeping the child’s best interests on top of the list.  EtonHouse Tokyo will offer the ‘Inquire, Think, Learn’ curriculum, inspired by the Reggio Emilia preschool approach, which originated from Italy.  Named as the best in early childhood programme in the world by Newsweek magazine in 1991, the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education has attracted worldwide attention and is now adopted in many countries to date. When the school opens on August 30, enrollees are expected to reach as many as 120 eager learners, but will be keeping a moderate student-teacher ratio to ensure that each child is given undivided attention.  Children at EtonHouse Tokyo will be offered a holistic international education from nursery to kindergarten (18 months to six years old). Their programmes will be conducted in English by experienced and qualified early childhood educators of different nationalities and curriculum will revolve around purposeful learning such as acquisition of literacy and numeracy skills, participation in dialogues, singing, movement, drawing, painting, designing and constructing, collage, dramatic play, and music.

EtonHouse’s method will tap into each individual’s strengths and instill in them a lifelong love for learning.  The school will also offer an outstanding second language programme in Mandarin to help children develop competencies in the language.

The process of assessment at EtonHouse Tokyo will be a collaborative experience between the staff, children, and their parents so that children develop a sense of ownership in their learning which is essentially the key to building confidence and shaping them to be happy and engaged global learners and critical thinkers.  With over twenty-four schools across seven countries catering to over 3,000 students from fifty-four different nationalities, the EtonHouse preschools have established a truly dynamic and multicultural environment of the highest international standards.
