The Consumer’s Electronics Show

From Jan 8-11, 2013, more than 150,000 curious techies, tech enthusiasts and investors all over the world traveled to Las Vegas for the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the world’s largest technology and trade expo, to have a look at 20,000 of the latest gadgetry.  Let’s get acquainted with the stars of the show.

Canon
What?    Canon PowerShot N digital camera
What’s unique about it?  It’s small enough to fit in your pocket like a cellphone but more powerful than a smartphone camera.  (Dimensions 78 inches x 60 inches x 71mm)   This compact camera complete with a touch shutter and zoom controls connects to a wi-fi network and has a long-reaching optical lens and a larger sensor.  It’s equipped with a built-in CMOS image sensor that captures up to a 12.1-megapixel range and 1080p video.  When in the on mode, it expands to two different directions and hides nicely when you turn it off.  The screen tilts to a 90-degree angle.  Available from April 2013.Nvidia Project Shield
What? 
  Project Shield Nvidia is a new multi touch portable device by American global technology company NVIDIA that delivers a strong graphic performance powered by Android.  It has the ability to run games on Xbox and Play Station consoles and comes with a 33-watt hour battery that allows 5 to 10 hours of uninterrupted play that also supports HD video.  It’s equipped with a powerful set of speakers on the controller, twice the output of most laptops.
Who is it for? All game enthusiasts
How does it work?   Nvidia Tegra 4 processor, having a 72-core GE Force GPU, is the first quad-core application and world’s fastest mobile processor.   Built into the device allows impressive graphics and snappish movements.  To play on the big screen and appreciate its superior quality resolution,  you simply have to hook the device on to the HDMI port of an onboard video and you’re set.  http://shield.nvidia.com/

Xperia Z by Sony
What?    Xperia™ Z dust and water-resistant smartphones by Sony
What’s unique?   It has an ultra thin 7-mm body with 5-inch screen displays, 4G LTE with a huge 13 megapixel camera.  It is the world’s first mobile that takes crispy image quality and movies even against strong light.  Out by March 2013.  Colors:  black, white and purple. www.sonymobile.com

Liquipel
What? 
  Liquipel is a new patent-pending process that coats all liquid-sensitive electronic devices like smartphones, cameras etc. with nano formula to shield it  from damage caused by accidental exposure.
How does it work?  The gadget is placed in the chamber of the liquipel machine then pumps down to create a vacuum.  A special liquipel formulaic action is introduced into the chamber as a vapor allowing it to permeate all aspects of the device.  Liquipel then binds the coating to the device’s surface on a molecular level, finalizing the process. What is it?     It is the smallest one-wheel people mover ever invented.
Who is it for?   Anyone 15 years and up and weighs no more than 113 kg or 25o lbs.
How does it work?   Step on the left and right foot rest and  let the self-balancing gyrostabilized wheel carry anyone around.  It runs on Life PO4 battery (lithium-ion).  Solowheel weighs 11kg (26 lbs) and is easy to carry everywhere. Runs at a speed of 16 kms an hour but may be adjusted to suit the rider.  It is used as you would a bicycle. www.solowheel.com

Samsung VG-ST3000
What?
  Samsung VG-STC3000 is the world’s first TV camera with motion and face recognition.
What does it do?   Used with high definition Samsung smart television sets, it is a stand-alone HD camera that greatly enhances quality of Skype video calls.   The face-recognition feature is used for gaming, program selection, and others.   Out by the first half of 2013.

OLED Ultra HDTV by LG
What?   It’s the world’s first curved OLED Ultra HD TV rolled out by Korean electronics giant LG at the CES 2013.  Having received 10  awards for its fantastic breakthrough in technology and innovations, LG is arguably the scene stealer at the show with other innovative product lines well received by the visitors.
What’s special about it?  It’s a smart TV in 55, 65 and 85-inch models that has a curvy yet ultra slim body for an enhanced 3D viewing experience.  It offers four times the resolution of a standard 4HD, is wi-fi ready, and brings internet directly to
the television allowing sharing of information between smartphones and tablets.  LG launches this in March 2013 and the first unit will be shipped to the US at an initial price of US$12,000. www.lg.com

What?  
  Vusiz Smart glasses M100 is a hands-free device worn like a headset with a tiny screen in front of an eye that functions as a GPS.  Visux, a leading supplier of video eyewear, is a recipient of the CES Best of Innovation award.

HAPIfork
What? 
HAPIfork is a smart electronic fork that tells you how fast you are eating designed by French engineer Jacques Lepine.
Who is it for?  For people who want to improve their digestion and reduce weight by monitoring their eating behavior.
How does it work?  The HAPIfork is a device equipped with an electronic key that measures start and finish of your meal and duration of fork serving intervals. Your HAPIfork eating behavior is recorded and a data is transmitted to your smartphone via wi-fi or computer via USB.  www.hapilabs.com
