The 49-year old National Stadium of Japan built for the 1964 Olympic Games is scheduled to undergo a total makeover under the skillful hands of London based firm, Zaha Hadid Architects.   The architectural firm beat out 10 other bids after a tight screening by the Japan Sports Council headed by Mr. Tadao Ando.  The redesign project is reported to be a one billion dollar deal.   The new stadium will host the 2019 Rugby World Cup and will be the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2020 Olympic Games.   Target date for completion is in 2018.
