The only kid who wasn’t scared of Maleficent…

By on May 8, 2014

For generations, master storyteller Walt Disney has told many stories to children but left one out. Disney revisits the untold story of self-proclaimed ‘Mistress of all Evil,’ Maleficent, who we all know from Disney’s 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty as the iconic villainess.

Hollywood megastar Angelina Jolie plays the titular role of Maleficent and is joined by her lovely 5-year old daughter Vivienne Jolie-Pitt in a cameo role as Princess Aurora.

Asked by the press why Vivienne was cast in the role, Angelina explains her daughter was hanging out with her on the set when kids were being cast for audition.

The child actors were frightened by Maleficent’s all-black costume with horns.

“The other 3-and 4-year-olds wouldn’t come near me,” Jolie states. “It had to be a child that liked me and wasn’t afraid of my horns and my eyes and my claws so it had to be Viv.”

“We think it’s fun for our kids to have cameos and join us on set, but not to be actors. That’s not our goal for Brad and I at all.”

Angelina’s daughter plays the young Sleeping Beauty and Elle Fanning plays the princess grown-up.

Maleficent is produced by Joe Roth and directed by Robert Stromberg, with Angelina Jolie, Don Hahn, Matt Smith, Palak Patel and Sarah Bradshaw as executive producers, and screenplay by Linda Woolverton. Maleficent opens in theaters on July 4.
