Skiing at Club Med Sahoro

My impression of Club Meds in general, was that they were for fast-paced singles. Not so in Hokkaido!  This is the family place to go for skiing.

Club Med Sahoro is extremely child friendly. The super little kids can go to the creche; the older kids can go to the kids’ ski school (all day), and the parents can ski all day without a care in the world.  Kids are fed lunch by the counselors and there are even post-ski activities for the kids, so mom and dad can ski a little longer.
Skiing was good. The Swiss Alps it is not, but keeping in perspective that it’s just a short flight from Tokyo, we were happy with the ski hills.  Private or group lessons are available and my husband and daughter found the teachers to be very competent. There is a “snow garden” for the little non-skiers and a motorized ramp for the just beginning skiers.

When we were ready for a break, there is a wonderful indoor pool and onsen. And, since it’s a Club Med, there is no shortage of other activities available – ping-pong, arts and crafts, an old-fashioned snowball fight, souvenir shopping, and more…

They cater to all tastes – kids, adults, vegetarians.  Plus, there is free wine for adults with dinner. The counselors and dining room staff are also the entertainers each evening. Club Med has even made it family-friendly for parents who want a nightcap in the bar by providing a magic show for the kids on one side of the bar.
The rooms were fine for our family, but they were not extraordinary. There are recently renovated rooms in a section of the hotel nearest to the lobby, but really, how much time do you spend in your room?
Club Med is very convenient and easy to get to.   From the moment you land, and the awaiting bus at the airport whisks you off to the hotel, you know that you’re in for a great holiday.

Handy Hints: Childcare is not available for children under 2 years of age. Ski School is available for children age 4 and up.
