Rainforest Cafe

By on February 23, 2016

When American entrepreneur Steve Schussler spent US$400,000 in 1994 to create a rainforest at his Golden Valley home in Minnesota to show it to investors, he had one thing in mind: to open an entertaining and educational restaurant that would appeal to families. Fourteen years later, he did just that. With the help of venture capitalist Lyle Berman, he opened the first Minnesota location that would later expand into 30 US locations and 5 international restaurants in Canada, France, U.K., UAE and Japan.

Japan’s Rainforest is located in Ikspiari’s Tokyo Disney Resort (all Rainforest restaurants are) where everything you expect from a jungle-themed restaurant has been beautifully put together with a spacious dining space that seats 300 people complete with interactive weather conditions, tropical atmosphere, animatronic animals as tall as 5 meters and the sound of their voices.

What’s good:
✔ Tropical scenery and aquarium tank are all very relaxing. Kids love it.
✔ Food is good
✔ English menu
✔ Hamburger size is huge.
✔ Drink refills available
✔ Service was quick.
✔ More than enough space to park buggies.
✔ Kids had fun. As we walked through the dark entrance, my 5-year old got scared at first as she saw a huge elephant family and hear Tsuki, the baby elephant and Makita, the mummy, make sounds.

Not so good:
✗ Food was overpriced
✗ No rain storm like in the U.S.
✗ Bad nachos.
✗ Waiting time took 30 minutes. (We went on a weekend.)
✗ Too crowded at lunch time.
