Eggcellent, the restaurant that eggs built

Behind the Emporio Armani shop on the first floor of Roppongi Hills’ Hollywood building is a casual brunch nook that is more than just suitable for a family dining experience. The restaurant is called Eggcellent – for many reasons, other than egg is the star on the menu.

Bouillabaisse Benedict

The eggs used at the restaurant are all organic from nature farms of Tochigi and so too are dairy products from milk and cream to cheese and yogurt. The breakfast menu is kid-friendly.

The restaurant has a variety of Benedict plates: Half & Half, a split of the classic benedict and avocado as well as maguro on a bed of Quinoa (¥2,100); Original Benedict with the usual bacon on top of English muffins (¥1,800); A.M. Eggcellent Quinoa Benedict with avocado, maguro, quinoa and mugi-miso sauce (¥2,250); Eggcellent Tostada, a benedict in Mexican Tostada style (¥1,950), Avocado Toast, a thick slice of toasted bread topped with avocado, lettuce and creamy scrambled egg (¥1,450); with the new addition of Bouillabaisse Benedict that’s served with shrimps, scallops and poached eggs topped with hollandaise sauce (¥2,250).

Wife and I ordered the Bouillabaisse Benedict and the boys’ choice was the Original Benedict. They were all very good.

Appetizer

All of our orders came with an appetizer – a tiny cup of cold tomato cream soup and a good serving of rich yogurt topped with mildly sweet strawberry syrup that came in an egg shell shaped container.

Fresh orange juice

Breakfast for us is not the same without fresh orange juice. The kids loved the restaurant’s clever way of serving the juice with the whole fruit and juice in it (¥500). The juice was served with a wide straw and a teaspoon so you could scrape the pulp bits off the sides of the fruit. The kids had fun.

The portion size at this restaurant was fair, the price was reasonable and the service was fast. Above all, the high quality of food we ate here encompasses all the other 5 restaurants we’ve been to. The kids have decided (and we couldn’t agree more), that this place, from now, on will be the family’s weekend brunch spot.
