Japan’s Gundam says goodbye

By on December 2, 2016

Mobile Suit Gundam, the 18-meter (59 feet) high giant robot in Odaiba’s Diver City Tokyo Plaza that has attracted large crowds in the city since appearing in 2012, will be gone by March 5, 2017. The Gundam Front Tokyo on the 7th floor will also end by April 5, 2017.

More than 4 million people in 52 days have positively reacted to the giant robot when it first appeared in the summer of 2009.

Gundam’s 40th anniversary is in 2019. Although it’s too early to say what’s next for the famous statue in Odaiba, there are talks of another Gundam project to be announced later.  As Japan prepares  for the 2020 Olympics, expect a much bigger one!
