New Year’s advice to teens

By on December 27, 2016

“Out with the old, in with the new” is a popular motto every time January 1 comes around. It is a time when people try to ensure a better year ahead by replacing old bad habits with new positive ways. If you’d like to start 2017 right, here are some tips on how to do so. Kick the year off fresh!

Generate good karma
“What goes around comes around” isn’t just the title to a Justin Timberlake jam but also a way of life. Spiritual or not, you may have noticed that your actions will have effect on how you’re seen or treated. Give your rep a boost by going that extra mile to lend a hand at home, back up your buddies, help out a stranger, or even give charities a go.

What the health?
Impressions are a big thing in your teenage years, so you’d probably want to keep fit. Getting at least an hour of exercise a day and developing a healthy fruit and veggie-heavy diet will up performance in sports and get you into trendy clothes. Shedding the extra weight also combats depression, so you can save the drama for The OC.

Get the right ‘tude
Staying healthy also goes for the mind. Be positive and try new things. Cut out the “I can’t do its” and other such downers when assessing yourself, as most limitations are formed in the mind. If you run low on confidence, try to create or achieve a project or goal, no matter how small, to remind yourself that you can accomplish something. I bet you can!

You oughta know
You’ve gotta keep those brain muscles moving all year! Feeding yourself information sharpens your skills and helps you acquire new ones. In addition to school work, try to learn something new simply because it interests you. You could study a language, play an instrument, or pick up some hot books to see what the hype is about.

Keep happy
It’s not easy being teen. We battle peer pressure on digital and even alcohol addiction daily. Not only are these vices unhealthy, they’re also a huge waste of time. Respect yourself and pass; spend your time doing things that make you happy instead. Join a band or sports team, cook up a storm in the kitchen, design clothes, or just hang out with friends. The sky’s the limit!

Most of all, to be effective in making positive changes to your life, you need to feel good about what you’re doing. Many resolutions fail because people feel forced to see them through; if you do things because you enjoy them, then that’s a whole new story!
