Best Enrichment Classes for Kids in Tokyo

By on February 13, 2017

Kids go through different stages of development as they grow from infants to young inquiring minds.

Multiple changes that happen in each of these stages are best stimulated by activities and enriching experiences for their growth and development.

These places have amazing programs that will do just that.

A child begins to explore from the minute of birth. Babies delight in games of peek-a-boo, the sight of a parent’s face close to theirs or the contrast of simple black and white patterned toys. During the early years, a child’s fascination with how things work expands to fill a daily life rich in imagination and challenges. Parents everywhere know the joy of watching their children grasp a new skill or understanding. It is like magic.

Research by renowned academics worldwide states a child gains social and physical confidence from structured play. The opportunity for social development through play is wide-ranging. Stories and role-playing can foster creative language and communication skills. Interaction with other young players is good for confidence and team building. The underlying aims are not always obvious when watching a group of active three-year-olds scramble enthusiastically through a giant “dishwasher” (clamber equipment setup to act as a toy tunnel) or take a trip on a “bouncy train” (a large air inflatable air log). Squeals of glee obscure the fact the children are demonstrating co-operation, turn-taking and concentration skills. They are also showing appreciation for the efforts of others as well as achieving personal triumphs. Early physical play can provide long-term physical advantages. Agility, dexterity and balance are useful to master at as soon as possible.

The first six years provide a foundation for the rest of a child’s life. How a child learns to learn will stay with them forever. Places such as Gymboree provide an extra dimension to a child’s early development. But most important is the fun.

Konami believes that physical fitness started early leads to better school grades. Konami Kids School is an athletic cram school offering a range of recreational activities designed for different age groups to help them achieve a healthy mind and body. The staff at each activity ensures that each child is given attention to achieve developing potential in a fun and engaging way.

Swimming program is offered to six age groups: Baby Swimming (4 mos – 1 year old), Little Swimming (2 − 4 years old), Kinder (3 − 5 years old), Beginner (5 – elementary school-age), Intermediate (elementary to middle school age), and Athlete or Senshu for high school age children. Each program is designed to meet the child’s goal. The Baby Swimming program exclusively for 4 months old until 2 years, allows the child to experience being in the pool early. Accompanied by a parent or guardian, the baby is introduced to structured activities for a natural water experience that will help build confidence.

Babies who are just beginning to walk will benefit from the Sports Baby program offered from 8 months up accompanied by parent or guardian. The physical training routine for babies includes walking, running, flying, going round in circles in a spacious friendly environment that otherwise is not possible at home. The bilingual classes at the Lycée Francais International in Tokyo offers the opportunity to integrate into our education system while developing a double cultural and linguistic richness.
The objective of our bilingual education program is to enable students to acquire comparable skills in both languages in all areas of the French education system.

The teaching is done half in French and half in English. From cycle 1 to cycle 3, all curricula are taught in both languages. (For example, mathematics teaching, discovering the world, are taught in both French and English). The pedagogical choice to teach the whole of a discipline in a language can be proposed (For example: history in French, sciences in English, with reinvestment of vocabulary).

It is an additional tool for quality teaching, knowing that other possibilities are offered to high school children like teaching English from the preparatory course as well as teaching Japanese in skill groups from the middle section

How it works:
A meeting is organized during the 3rd quarter for parents wishing to integrate their children in the bilingual class.
In each level, the French and English teachers meet the parents to discuss the structure.

There are two types of classes at the Lycée Francais International in Tokyo:
1. French classes combined with English and Japanese language teaching;
2. French and English.

These classes also benefit from a Japanese education from the Middle Kindergarten. Subjects are taught in both languages with two teachers in a class and a maternal assistant trilingual in French-English and Japanese.

The general curriculum is endorsed by the French Ministry of Education with British Curriculum adjustment. Bilingual Class pupils also study Japanese language (2 times 45 minutes, Japanese as a foreign language or Japanese as a mother tongue).
