Best passport in the world 2017: Germany shares top spot with an Asian country. Hint: It’s not Japan.

Global Financial Advisory firm Arton Capital recently revealed the most powerful passports in the entire world this year.

Although Germany remains to be on top of the list, it is joined for the first time this year by Singapore, allowing citizens of these 2 countries to pass go to as many as 159 countries.  Philippe May, Managing Director of Arton Capital, predicts Singapore to overtake Germany soon due to its neutrality and diplomacy.

Sweden is the second best with free access to 158 countries. The Arton index made up of 193 UN member nations is based on the total number of countries a passport holder gets visa-free access and a country’s perception abroad using the UN Development Programme Human Development Index, in case of a tie.

China, the 2nd largest economy in the world is in the 70th rank (56 countries).
157 countries – Denmark, Finland, Italy, France, Spain, Norway, UK, South Korea, USA

156 countries – Switzerland, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium, Austria, Portugal, Malaysia, Japan

155 countries – Ireland, Canada

154 countries – Greece, New Zealand, Australia

153 countries – Iceland

152 countries – Malta, Czechia

151 countries – Hungary

150 countries – Poland

The 3 passports at the bottom of the list are Iraq (28 countries), Pakistan (27 countries), and Afghanistan (25 countries).
