We ate a giant parfait in Tokyo

By on October 8, 2017

How far would you travel to eat a giant parfait in Tokyo?  20 kms?  30?  Distance is not a problem for my ice cream-crazy family. But thanks to a friend’s tip, we didn’t have to go too far.

All it took was a 17-min. train ride from our Hiroo home.  The kids were excited.  After we got off at the train station, we walked towards the shopping street of Musashi Koyama and browsed at all kinds of shops along the way.  In no time, we found ourselves in front of  the quaint little cafe called  Oosama to Ichigo  (the king and strawberry).

Oosama to Ichigo is essentially a cake and coffee shop best known for ‘FAMBO’ or its most requested jumbo size parfaits that started way back in 1985.  But the reason we made the trip there is  to try the KING PARFAIT, the biggest version that’s been added on to their menu since.

The Menu

The intriguing ‘King Parfait’ (¥2,800) I’m talking about is huge. It is 60 cms high and weighs 3.5 kgs! It’s more than enough to satisfy our ice cream cravings for the entire season!  We ordered the chocolate flavor with a chocolate syrup topping that came with very long spoons and small serving bowls.

If you are not a fan of chocolate, there are 5 other unique flavours to choose from :  strawberry, lemon, kiwi, raspberry and blueberry – and an option for more whipped cream, strawberry or banana toppings for an additional cost (¥150-¥420). They also have 10 kinds of cake that go with coffee or tea (set – ¥500).
