Battledore market “Hagoita-Ichi” at Sensoji Temple

By on December 13, 2017

For a mix of tradition and spectacle, Asakusa’s Sensoji Temple is always a winner.  This month is no exception, with the staging of the annual Battledore market where decorated hago-ita are sold by the bucketful.

These decorative bats are used to play the traditional New Year’s game of hanetsuki, a cross between badminton and table tennis.

Once you’ve battled with the crowds and waffed a bit of incense for good luck, make your way to fun Hanayashiki Amusement Park just around the corner.
