As we are wrapping up the final touches of this issue before it goes to print, the school year for many of us has just come to a close. After the End-of-Year parties, and sad Sayonaras, expat families are scattering to the four corners of the earth as summer holidays begin. While this means fewer playmates for our kids for those of us who stay in Tokyo, it’s also a chance to relax a little and enjoy a whole host of summer activities in and around the city. And, it’s an opportunity for our kids to enjoy being kids, with a bit less structure, and some summertime fun. As a child, summer for me always meant swimming, BBQ’s, beaches, barefoot days and catching fireflies at night. Even though we live in the largest city in the world, Tokyo somehow still manages to capture some of that same spirit for our children.

Enjoy your summer!

Happy Reading,
Suzanne Davison, Editor
